Please join us for a warming winter welcome to reflect on Critical Mass London's history.
It is the 20th anniversary of when the London Metropolitan Police tried to shut down Critical Mass.
Long time cycling advocate and CM participant Des Kay, with help from the Friends of the Earth, contested the decision. The appeal went all the way to the Law Lords, and ultimately was successful - ensuring the survival of Critical Mass and paving the way for the freedom that current riders enjoy today.
This event marks the launch of the Des Kay Archive, a collection of physical ephemera such as flyers, leaflets, zines, and newspaper clippings collected by Des during the early years of Critical Mass London. This will be held for long-term safekeeping by MayDay Rooms. The Des Kay Archive will also be made available digitally online.
Des himself will be there, along with past and current participants of Critical Mass London, to reflect on the Law Lords decision, the highs and lows of the ride in recent times, and what the future might hold.
Doors open at 7pm. Event starts at 7:30pm (approx). Duration 60-90 mins. BYO. Drinks nearby afterwards.
On-street bicycle parking is nearby - bring two locks!
