For this edition of Archiving From Below, Mayday Rooms are hosting the London Community Video Archive (LCVA) for a special screening event at Pelican House. The event will highlight the LCVA’s most recent acquisitions including the work of North London squatters and early video activists Graft On! and Fantasy Factory, from the mid-1970s; experimental and political video work by Terry Flaxton made in the 1970s and 1980s; environmental reportage and campaign tapes by undercurrents; and LGBTQ activist videos by OUTRAGE! from the 1990s.
Many of these videos have been newly collected, preserved and catalogued by the LCVA and will be available to watch for the first time since they were recorded. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Ed Webb-Ingall (Project Director, LCVA) and Phoebe Beckett Chingono (Project Coordinator, LCVA) drawing connections between activist and community videos spanning thirty years as well as sharing changes and updates behind the scenes at the London Community Video Archive. There will be DJs and the launch of a new, limited edition T-Shirt to help raise funds for the London Community Video Archive, please come along to find out more about what we do and get involved.
Accessibility info: The event space is level throughout – the bar, dance floor and smoking area are all on the ground floor, as well as one accessible WC. Videos will be captioned
