Following on from two sold out performances, a Calcutta (Kolkata)-based Bengali singer, composer and practice-led researcher Moushumi Bhowmik is back in London to present on and perform her archive of songs and sounds from Bengal and London. She will be joined by Ben Heartland (bass), Olly Weeks (guitar), Ros Acton (cello), of their old band "Parapar', which they formed some two decades ago when Moushumi lived in London. They continue to play together whenever they can find the time in their own dispersed lives.
Moushumi's main focus is on questions of home, homeland, borders and displacement and her main research methodology involves listening and telling/singing. She collaborates with artists, filmmakers and scholars across disciplines and continents. She is handing over a set of her/The Travelling Archive's recordings relating to Bengali life in London and elsewhere in Britain, to help us study our histories of migration through sound.
